Vaginal Dryness

Updated: Oct 29, 2022

Often the most common symptom that leads women to discover they are suffering from vaginal dryness is due to painful intercourse. It is also common for women to believe they have a Yeast Infection when suffering from vaginal dryness. This is due to the dryness of the vagina rubbing against itself creating micro-tears within the tissue creating a “burning sensation.” A decrease in vaginal lubrication can be caused by a number of reasons but the most common of them after 40 being an imbalance of hormones in the female body.

The imbalance of a female’s hormones can be due to many factors, like stress, physical injury, a pregnancy, a change in medication, etc. However, the most obvious change in hormones happens before, during, and after the onset of menopause. That is why a majority of those that suffer from vaginal dryness are women that are over the age of 40.

Common symptoms with Vaginal Dryness are:

  • Painful Intercourse

  • Softening of Sexual Performance

  • Poor Sleep

  • Low Libido

  • Mood Changes

  • Uncomfortability

  • Burning Sensation

  • A Decrease in Sexual Desire

Many women don’t know they are suffering from this problem due to the fact that symptoms of vaginal dryness happen gradually over months and years. Along with this discomfort, their sensitivity goes down over time as well, which makes it difficult for women to reach orgasm. This leads to an avoidance of sex and the longer a woman strays from having sex because of this discomfort, it leads to an “it’s better to avoid the pain than to try and have sex” mindset and only gets worse over time.

Short-term solutions and common practices that help alleviate this discomfort would be to use vaginal lubrication which can be found at your local pharmacy. A high-quality lubricant can be found at Richard’s Pharmacy.

Long-term solutions would require balancing of hormones with attention to other areas like nutritionand sleep. Vaginal dryness and avoidance of sex willl incrtease stress on relationships, afect your sense of welbeing and decrease your overall quality of life.
